The Big Whoop art contest held in conjuction with the TX Dot state contest was a great success. Over 150 entries were received from Calhoun County ISD students. The age groups ranged from 6-17 years old. The contest was judged by members of the Port Lavaca Art Guild Including: Margo Thorn,
Monique Morlan,
Lola Chaka,
Patty Lowrie and
Janice Blake. The judges said they were very impressed with the composition and balance of many of the entries.
The contestants will next be submitted to TX Dot to be included in their annual contests. Winners at the level will enjoy a banquet in The Woodlands and will be submitted to a national contest and then possibly on to an International competition held by the International Aviation Association.
First Place winners from the Calhoun Airport received free airplane flights in one of Calhouns new Cessna's. Second place winners received art kits sponsored by Deity Design. Third place winners won Big Whoop T-shirts. We look forward to sending the entries up to TX Dot and think we have a strong chance of getting one of our Calhoun kids in the 2011 Calendar.
